The political and corporate worlds are becoming increasingly intertwined. To gain understanding about recent events and insight into what might be anticipated in this complex environment, the Ross School of Business Alumni Club of Southeast Michigan is turning to one of its fellow alums— US Congressman Pete Hoekstra (MBA 1977).
Prior to running for Congress, Pete was a VP of Marketing for Herman Miller, Inc. During his time with the company, Pete was able to contribute to the development and introduction of several ground-breaking, world-renowned product lines. Moving into public service, he staged one of Michigan election history’s major upsets. Despite being outspent at least 15 to 1, he defeated a twenty-six year Republican incumbent in the primary of 1992. Pete has since been elected to nine consecutive terms in the House of Representatives.
In the U.S. House, Pete has served on numerous committees including Education and Labor, Budget, and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He was instrumental in reforming the Intelligence Community in response to the terrorist attacks of 2001 and the report of the 9/11 commission.
Attendees should find Pete offers a unique perspective due to his experience in both business and government. Entrepreneurs and executives currently in Michigan, and with a desire to remain here, should benefit from his insights into how world and national events relate to Michigan and its future.
This timely and relevant event is open to the public. The online registration is closed, but tickets are available at the door.
