Life Sciences - A Healthy Future for MI

Join us 11/11/09 for a talk from Ross MBA Alum William Brinkerhoff covering the Pharmaceutical Industry

Come learn about the biotech and pharmaceutical industry from Bill Brinkerhoff (MBA ’89). His career focus shifted from automotive to pharmaceutical in 1989 and eventually led back to Ann Arbor where he returned to head business development for Esperion Therapeutics until it was sold to Pfizer for $1.3 billion in 2004. Mr. Brinkerhoff then co-founded Cerenis Therapeutics, which has raised $86 million to date to develop cardiovascular therapies relating to HDL cholesterol. The story of Cerenis Therapeutics is an example of a successful venture backed life sciences startup in Michigan. An overview of the life sciences industry in Michigan will also be provided.

About the Speaker:

William F Brinkerhoff, MBA, founder and COO of Cerenis Therapeutics, has over 19 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. From 2002 to 2004, Mr. Brinkerhoff was Vice President of Business Development and an executive officer for Esperion Therapeutics. From 1999 to 2002, Mr. Brinkerhoff was employed by Sankyo Pharma Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of the Tokyo-based pharmaceutical company Sankyo Co., Ltd., as Director of Business Development. From 1996 to 1998, he served as Director of Market Planning & Sales Operations at Sankyo Pharma Inc., after serving as Manager of Market Research for Sankyo USA Corporation from 1995, during which time he was a member of the senior negotiating team that formed the Sankyo/ Parke-Davis joint venture. Prior to that, Mr. Brinkerhoff worked as an account manager for the pharmaceutical industry group at Oracle Corporation, and worked in various sales, marketing and manufacturing management positions for the Lederle Laboratories division of American Cyanamid from 1989 to 1994. Mr. Brinkerhoff received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Industrial and Operations Engineering and an MBA from the University of Michigan .
