The Federal Reserve has been a central player in the recent US economic developments.  The views and decisions of the Federal Reserve have shaped the recent recovery and impacted interest rates and inflation nationwide.   The RSB Alumni Club is pleased to present an opportunity for an economic update from the Federal Reserve, as well as an overview of its operations in the city of Detroit.  The current building compound occupies 17 acres and was completed in 2004 at an estimated cost of $80 million.

About the Speaker

Martin Lavelle is an associate economist in the Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago’s Detroit Branch.  His research revolves around the Michigan economy and its impact on the District and national economies.  In addition to his Federal Reserve work, Mr. Lavelle teaches managerial economics at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and volunteers with Junior Achievement, teaching high school students about entrepreneurship.  Lavelle received his B.S. in Business and M.A. in Economics from Miami University in Oxford, OH.
